Looking for a change of pace but don’t want to drive very far? Why not vacation in Cornville, Arizona, just a 25-minute drive from Sedona. Stay four nights at the lovely Highlands Resort at Verde Ridge which overlooks the 9th hole of the Verde Santa Fe Golf Course. This tastefully decorated 1-bedroom unit features a fully equipped kitchen and living room, with laundry facilities, a fitness center, two spas and a heated pool on-site. But you won’t want to spend much time there because there is SO much to do in this area. Head up the mountain to Jerome (which holds the title of the largest ghost town in America), just 25 minutes away. Enjoy the quaint cafes, the historic park and museum, and the art cooperatives. Or explore Verde Valley wineries, take scenic hikes, or play golf. Since it will be early fall, you will likely see some changing colors, and there is no better way to appreciate this than to take a train ride through the Verde Canyon. If you are hungry after your adventure, go to nearby Cottonwood, known as “The Biggest Little Town in the State of Arizona.” There you will find an interesting historic “Old Town” with several great restaurants. A $175 Visa card is included to pay resort fees ($15/day) and a meal ($1,000 Value).
